About This Conversion

Centimeters to feet is almost always a height conversion: passports, sports rosters, medical records and dating profiles all mix the two conventions. The result is rarely useful as a decimal, because heights are spoken as feet and inches.

The two-step version is the one worth knowing. Divide the centimeters by 2.54 to get total inches, then divide by 12: the whole number is the feet and the remainder times 12 is the inches. 175 cm becomes 68.9 inches, which is 5 feet 8.9 inches.
